Conserving energy use in the office is primarily geared toward two energy resources - electricity and natural gas. By practicing what we preach, using common sense and taking note of our tendencies and thoughtlessly wasteful energy-use habits, we are reducing our usage of electricity in the summer and natural gas in the winter. Here's how:

Southern Screens Report Card for 2006 & 2007 Office Energy Use
Installing and Using Screens for Energy Conservation - (A)

We've installed, and we use solar screens on windows facing west and south in the summer months. This has markedly reduced our AC usage and costs. In the winter months, we will leave these screens retracted to promote solar gain inside, naturally warming the interior whenever possible. This will reduce our heater (and natural gas) usage.
We also use retractable window and door ventilation screens allowing us to open the office to cool breezes and fresh air in the spring and fall. Each office also has a ceiling fan to supplement cooling.  During these times, no AC or heat is needed or used.
Powering Down Equipment when not in use- (C+)
We have adopted a policy of shutting down computers completely at night. It takes a little longer to get up and running in the morning (so be patient if you call early!). Even in standby, 4 computers, 4 printers, a scanner, and various transformers and chargers use a lot of electricity.
We are also trying to be vigilant in turning off lights and fans when an office is vacant. Things that require thought now should become second nature in the near future.
